Heritage College marks ANZAC Day both on campus and in community events locally. On Wednesday 24 April, Students from the Early Learning Centre, Primary and Secondary came together at the Officer campus, and Primary students from the Narre Warren South campus today to take part in the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service.
At both the Officer and Narre Warren South campus, ‘The Ode’ was read aloud by the Primary School Captains, and The Last Post was played. A one minute’s silence was observed by all to remember the fallen in conflict and wreaths were laid by student captains. The Australian flag was raised by Secondary Captains and the National Anthems of both Australia and New Zealand were sung by all in attendance.
School Captains and families will also join the Heritage College Leadership Team in laying wreaths at ANZAC Day Services in the community on the morning of Thursday 25th April. All families from the college are invited to join in for this moving occasion. An earlier service is attended at Officer, with a later service attended at Berwick, as follows:
- ANZAC DAY DAWN SERVICE AT OFFICER
Officer campus school captains, families and members of staff will meet at the Memorial Gates (corner of Starling Road and Princes Highway, Officer) at 5:45am. We will then join other community members and organisations in paying our respects by laying a wreath on behalf of the college community. There will be a brief service to occur from 6am onwards.
- ANZAC DAY MORNING SERVICE AT BERWICK
Narre Warren South campus school captains, families and members of staff attend the Berwick ANZAC Day Service at the Cenotaph (bottom end of High Street, Berwick). We meet at 10:30am for registering our wreath, followed by the formal ceremony from 11:00am.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
National Anthem – Australia
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil
Our home is girt by sea
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair
E Ihowā Atua,
O ngā iwi mātou rā
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai;
Kia tau tō atawhai;
God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific’s triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.
We will remember them.
