Enrolled Year 6 students at Heritage College will have their first glimpse of life as Secondary students as they participate in the Step into Secondary program at Officer Campus this week.
Students at both Officer and Narre Warren South Campus locations will participate in their first Orientation Day at Officer Campus on Tuesday 24 May 2022.
This Orientation is the first in a series of visits to the Secondary School, and for many, it will be their first experience as a Secondary Student for a period of the day.
Head of Secondary, Mr Darren Martin says the program helps Primary students navigate the daunting step from Primary to Secondary.
“The orientation days allow students to meet both faces and places while tasting the learning that occurs in fun-filled ways,” he says.
Year 7 Level Leader Mr Evan Varty says that students are keen to engage with the program and enjoy their first experience of Secondary school.
“Many times they walk away from the experience with something they have made in the class, to show off at home,” he says.
Orientation Days allow students to experience first-hand what student life is like as a Secondary School student, prior to commencing Secondary School at Officer Campus next year.
The first session involves participating in a Design and Technology class with Mr Scott Camps, in the Arts and Technology Precinct.
Future sessions will involve classes in Food Technology with Ms Baxter, Art with Mrs Gillard, Science with Mrs Axiaq, Health and PE with Mr Sleight/Miss Maggs, and the final combined Orientation Day at Officer Campus with all new incoming students in Term 4.
