Year 8 Phillip Island camp

Our Year 8 camp at Phillip Island is a great way to build resilience by facing new challenges.

The Year 8 camp at Phillip Island develops resilience in students by preparing them for new challenges. Popular with every Year 8 cohort, the camp provides students with the opportunity to bond outside the classroom environment, build new friendships and create memories that last a lifetime.

For three three days and two nights students camp under the stars at Victoria’s famous Phillip Island Adventure Resort. Students participate in a variety of activities such as high and low ropes, team initiatives and challenges, raft building, and a nature night program.

The highlight activity is surfing, where students head to Smiths Beach with qualified instructors and learn how to surf. By the end of their visit, most students are confident to catch waves standing up. Another popular activity is playing ‘Capture the Flag’, where students compete against one other for bragging rights for the remainder of the academic year.

What the students say:

“There were a lot of things I liked about camp. The first thing was spending time with my friends, it was a great time to just have fun. Another thing was the people there; they were really nice and made all of our food. The surfing was great, like a once in a lifetime moment.”  —Jake

“I really enjoyed surfing at camp. It was super fun, even though I fell off a lot. It was a really good experience.” —Leah

“Beachcombing was fun. Even if you were not surfing, you could still have fun on the beach, looking through rock pools and enjoying the company of friends.” —Darius
