HCC In-Depth (Episode 13)

As Term 3 hits its halfway stretch, with just four weeks to go, Deanna and Madelin bring viewers another full episode of HCC In-Depth. From classroom science to community milestones and a brand new game show segment, this week's episode captures the energy of a school pushing hard toward the end of term.

Forces in Motion: Prep LN Builds Marble Runs

In their integrated studies lessons, Prep LN students have been exploring the forces of push and pull. Designing and building their own marble runs from recyclable materials, students created obstacle courses that guided their marbles through twists and turns, deepening their understanding of how forces affect movement through a genuinely fun, hands-on activity.

Excellence in Worship: Chapel Band at Casey SDA Church

A few weeks back, the Chapel Band led worship during the main service at Casey SDA Church, bringing a spirit of praise and enthusiasm centred on the theme "More Than Able." Pastor Josh delivered a heartfelt sermon on opening our hearts to God's plans, while the Chapel Band created a meaningful atmosphere through melody, giving students a chance to use their talents in service to the wider church community.

A Wild Day Out: Year 1s Visit Moonlit Sanctuary

Our Year 1 students from both campuses had a roar-some day of learning at Moonlit Sanctuary as part of their Integrated Studies unit on Biology and Animals. Students observed Australian animals up close, explored how different creatures live and survive in their environments, and connected their classroom learning to the wildlife right in front of them, returning to school full of new animal knowledge and stories to share.

Nature and Imagination: ELC Bush Kinder

The ELC extended their learning outdoors during recent Bush Kinder sessions. After studying birds and the zoo, children took their discoveries outside, building nests, exploring nature, and taking their Kookaburra friend on adventures. From climbing trees and balancing on logs to searching for a missing caterpillar, students expressed their love of nature in imaginative and magical ways.

A Question of History: Year 10 Humanities Debate

The Year 10 Humanities class recently went head to head in a debate on the Pacific front of World War 2, tackling the challenging question of whether the Allies should have dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war. Divided into two teams, students presented opening statements, rebuttals, and concluding arguments, backing their positions with evidence and historical research in a genuinely thought-provoking discussion.

Beyond Heritage

This week's Beyond Heritage takes us across Cardinia Shire, where Richmond Football Club's senior leaders spoke to local sporting clubs about building strong, sustainable teams. In Pakenham, the netball club celebrated major milestones, including 200 games for Sarah Jones. Over in Glasgow, Seventh-day Adventist athlete Esther Nworgu made history, winning Nigeria's first ever Commonwealth Games gold and breaking the para powerlifting record twice along the way. Closer to home, a group of Pathfinders from Papua New Guinea travelled to Indonesia for an international camporee, where 24 Pathfinders made the decision to be baptised. And finally, a total solar eclipse swept across Greenland, Iceland and Spain this week, the first time totality has crossed continental Europe in 27 years.

Down to the Siren

It was a big week across the board in sport. Junior Girls Netball dominated Waverley, winning every quarter to finish 13 to 3, while Junior Boys Soccer produced one of the comebacks of the season, storming back from 0 to 2 down against Maranatha to win 12 to 2. In Year 7/8 Girls Volleyball, Marii fired off twelve straight aces to turn the tide against Edinburgh College in a nail-biting 34 to 30 win. Primary soccer and Senior pickleball teams also represented Heritage with resilience and good humour across their respective competitions. In the pro sport wrap, Fremantle remain on top of the AFL ladder, the Sydney Roosters hold first in the NRL, and ten Australians head into the US Open main draw chasing Grand Slam glory.

New This Week: Wisdom Watch

This week also saw the launch of a brand new game, Wisdom Watch. Answer every riddle correctly for the rest of the term and you'll be in the running for a $50 Westfield gift card, but get one wrong and you're out of contention.

See you all next week for another episode of HCC In-Depth!
