The Early Learning Centre partners with educators from the Primary campus to provide a seamless transition into the first year of Primary school. Activities are carefully designed to support each child as they prepare to move into, and form strong connections with, the Primary campus.
Activities include visits to the Library, weekly visits from Primary buddies, participation in chapel services and combined sporting events. The cross-campus activities are often the program's highlight for our early learners, helping them develop valuable social skills, develop strong bonds with others and create a sense of belonging within a larger campus community.
We also know how important it is to support families through this time. To provide the most supportive and nurturing process for our Early Learning families moving into Prep, we have developed a pathway to primary called ‘Step into Prep’. The program provides a webinar for Early Learning parents in Term 1, and the option to tour the campus and attend Orientation Days.
During Orientation Day, incoming Prep students are welcomed into the Prep classroom for a morning to meet the teacher and familiarise themselves with the learning areas and activities. When the time comes to start Prep, everything is familiar for both the child and parents.
In this way, making the move into Primary school is less of a leap and more of a familiar ‘step’.
