Nadeesha Durage

In this edition, we’re excited to continue our feature highlighting the incredible individuals within our Heritage community.

Meet Nadeesha Durage, our latest spotlight star, who serves as an Education Support Officer at Heritage College. Her story is one of kindness, patience, and dedication, reflecting her deep commitment to making a positive impact on others’ lives.

At the beginning of 2019, Nadeesha made a remarkable decision to grow her hair with the intention of donating it to children who had lost their hair due to illness. Inspired by heart-wrenching stories of children who faced emotional struggles and a loss of confidence due to hair loss, Nadeesha embarked on this journey with a heart full of compassion. She recognized the profound impact that something as simple as a wig made from real hair could have on a child’s self-esteem and quality of life.

Growing her hair to the desired length was no easy feat. It required immense patience and dedication. Nadeesha had to avoid chemical treatments and other potential damage to her hair, ensuring it remained healthy and strong. Throughout this process, she stayed motivated by the thought of helping others and the positive change she could bring to a child’s life. Each day, as her hair grew longer, so did her commitment to this heartfelt cause.

Nadeesha’s faith plays a significant role in her life and in her decision to donate her hair. She believes that her talents and resources are gifts meant to be used for the greater good. Her actions reflect a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to living out her values. For Nadeesha, donating her hair is more than just an act of kindness; it is a way to honor her faith and contribute to a cause greater than herself.

Looking ahead, Nadeesha is happy to continue donating her hair for as long as she can. She has found immense joy and fulfillment in knowing that her efforts can bring a smile to a child’s face. Her goal is to raise awareness within the Heritage College community about the importance of hair donations and the profound impact they have on children who cannot grow their own hair. She hopes to inspire others to consider similar acts of kindness and to recognize the difference they can make in the lives of those in need.

Nadeesha’s journey is a testament to the power of generosity and the incredible impact one person can have. Her dedication to supporting children in need truly embodies the spirit of compassion and community at Heritage College. Her story serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that even small acts of kindness can have a profound effect on others’ lives.

Nadeesha donates her hair to the “Hair with Heart” program by Variety – the Children’s Charity. This initiative began in 2007 and has grown significantly, providing wigs to children with alopecia and other medical conditions causing hair loss. The program receives over 6,000 donated ponytails each year, turning them into wigs for kids who have lost their hair. To donate, hair must be a minimum of 35.5 cm long and free of chemical treatments. The wigs help restore confidence and a sense of normalcy to children affected by hair loss.
