Heritage College was amongst 225 schools in Victoria identified as having attained above-average NAPLAN results gain in numeracy and literacy.
To identify substantially above average, ACARA compares the results of the most recent NAPLAN test to:
As students progress from Year 3 to Year 5 and Year 7 to Year 9, improvements in these levels are significant are worthy of acknowledgement. Heritage College acknowledges the efforts of both educators and parents in contributing to our latest combined achievement.
The staff at Heritage College work hard to develop a culture of continuous learning and improvement. The mantra of ‘a little better tomorrow than we were yesterday’ is often heard around campus. It is this culture of analysis, reflection and adaptation that has seen learning move and change at Heritage College.
Teachers at Heritage regularly analyse our student data to determine student success, as well as areas for improvement. It is this analysis that drives professional learning, training opportunities and plans for improvement at Heritage College.
Analysis of NAPLAN and PAT data three years ago prompted our school-wide review of our Numeracy Program. Teachers from Years 2 to 6 redeveloped their Mathematics programs with the goal to improve student outcomes. iMaths was introduced to support teaching concepts and skills to be transferred into project-based learning tasks. It was also this reflection and analysis of NAPLAN and PAT data that prompted staff to research and find extra support programs for students to develop their mathematical thinking and number fact skills.
Our secondary school has also taken on board the same approach to data analysis. Our secondary teachers have adopted a new Numeracy program that individualises learning based on student needs and assessment outcomes. Maths Pathways, while only being in our School for a short while, is already showing some great ‘value add’ results. We look forward to continued growth in our Secondary Mathematics program."
