SSV District Swimming Carnival Results

Published on Thursday 12 March, 2020

This week saw the best of our Year 3-6 swimmers go head to head with students from School Sports Victoria Cranbourne North District. Previously, Heritage College had won only one title (Kaitlyn 3rd place) at District Swimming Carnivals, so our students knew they had their work cut out for them in the pool.

Participants demonstrated resilience when faced with 50m of water between the starting blocks and the finish line. In addition, there were many Squad Swimmers competing from other schools. In a couple of 4x50m relay events, opposition teams were finishing their heat whilst we still had two swimmers still to enter the water. It takes real character to step up and carry on when faced with such challenges.

There were individual moments of joy to share during the day. Many of our students were competitive for the first 30m of their race and then faded late, unable to sustain their efforts over the full distance. However, this can be remedied with a bit of training and hard work. We also had four students win individual ribbons:

Albert 10 years - 3rd - 50m Butterfly

Kaitlyn 12 years - 3rd - 50m Freestyle

Sienna 12 years - 1st - 50m Backstroke

Amelia 12 years - 1st - 50m Butterfly

Congratulations to Amelia and Sienna who have also qualified to compete at the Casey South Division Carnival on Wednesday, 11th March 2020. This gives them the opportunity for a little more time to train, to refine their technique and increase their stamina. Amelia and Sienna are the first Heritage College students ever to qualify for the SSV Division Swimming Carnival. Good luck girls!

Thank you to the many family members who attended and supported our students. We appreciate you for taking the time to come along and cheer for Team Heritage College!
